ABOUT
OUR HISTORY
Founded by a group of parents seeking a better experience for their children in 1988, 78 Youth Sports has grown into one of New York City’s largest and most successful non-profit youth sports organizations.
We are often asked why “78”? Because our former name, 78th Precinct Youth Council, was inspired by our origins in Brooklyn’s 78th Police Precinct. While we are not officially affiliated with the precinct, we thought it important to keep the “78” as a nod to 30-plus years serving the community and surrounding areas.
In the almost four decades since our founding, we have grown to meet the demand for inclusive, affordable, and safe sports programming in Brooklyn. We offer multiple sports across all four seasons and we are especially thankful for our talented staff, dedicated Board and the thousands of passionate volunteers, without whom none of what we do would be possible.
We hope you can help to provide exceptional and accessible sports experiences where every Brooklyn family can belong. Want to be part of this Brooklyn tradition? Click to learn more about volunteer opportunities or to make a donation.
