VOLUNTEER RESOURCES
VOLUNTEER NOW
Volunteers are the life blood of our organization and donating your time to 78 Youth Sports is an incredible opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes. By sharing your time and skills, you not only help to foster a love for sports and teamwork in the next generation, but you also contribute to building a strong sense of community. Your involvement can inspire kids to develop confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship, shaping them into well-rounded individuals. Whether you have a background in coaching, organization, event planning, or simply a passion for supporting youth, every helping hand counts. Join us in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for our youth—together, we can make a difference!
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE? NO PROBLEM.
We have an extensive network of staff and volunteers available to support and assist you. We provide our coaches the tools and resources necessary to help make each season meaningful for the kids – and you! You will receive:
- Clear game rules.
- Coach and player expectations.
- Practice plans.
- Skills and drills exercises.
- Gameday strategies.
- Ongoing support from our leadership team and seasoned coaches.
GREAT, I'M IN. WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
Each coach must complete a three-step registration process. First, let us know that you would like to volunteer as a coach. You can do this when you register your child for a program (if you check the appropriate box on the Registration Form, we will contact you), or you can email us and we will get back to you with some specifics.
Second, you must complete a background check. Start with an electronic copy of your drivers license or passport and click here to complete the process. The entire process should take less than fifteen minutes to complete and National Center for Safety Initiatives will send the report directly to us about 10 business days later. If there are any questions or issues related to your background check, NCIS will contact you directly. You can also check your application status anytime by logging into ncsisafe.com under the “Applicant Login to Check Your Status” link.
Lastly, the City of New York requires you to obtain an AED/CPR certification. We recommend an Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED online class offered by The American Red Cross. The certification is good for two years. You can register for the class here. Upon successful completion of the class, we ask that you send to us a copy of your certification. Once your background check and AED/CPR certifications are complete, you’ll be added to the coaches’ roster after which we’ll follow up regarding season schedules, preseason meetings, equipment and uniform pickups, coaching resources and player/family onboarding.
IF I CAN'T COACH, ARE THE OTHER WAYS I CAN HELP?
Of course there are. Our success depends upon volunteer support so if you cannot coach, there are plenty of other opportunities to support the organization. If you want to be on the field, but you don’t want the awesome responsibility of being a head coach, you can sign up to be an assistant coach or a scorekeeper. As an assistant or a scorekeeper, you still need to complete the background check and AED/CPR certification. If on-field personnel really isn’t your thing, we also need school liaisons. School liaison is a perfect role for a parent active within their child’s PTA or school community. Liaisons help us create access to gym spaces for programming and other events (off-season training, rainy day camps, sports fairs, etc.).
Or, if your skills are technical or managerial, our staff is happy to avail itself of legal, marketing, social media, design and technical expertise. Let us know how you can help and we guaranty there is a place for you to pitch in.
Lastly, our Board is currently expanding. For those so interested, we are seeking members of the community with a passion for youth sports. Membership on the Board requires attendance at our monthly Board meetings, a commitment to support various programs or initiatives (e.g., serve as an age division baseball commissioner, manage our website migration, etc.) and raise money through direct contribution or sponsorship sales. Email us if you are up to the challenge.
